Desert
We drove for miles
In this God forsaken place
Past the lonely trails
Where mankind left no trace
Just a little further down the road
You said I would be surprised to see
What some call the mother load
Wilderness as it was meant to be

And there Nature was booming

Pricking my finger on the rose thorn
I saw my blood for the first time
Stinging endlessly
I cleaned it
My mother asked me
What had happened
Early that morning
I told her
How the pain off the thorn
Stung my finger
She kissed it softly
The rose was red
Violets were blue
The thorns dropped softly
From the rain and dew
the thorns were everywhere
But sitting there they called
The garden which this rise had laid
Was like stars chosen

Hopping Into 2014
It is but one time of year I can throw this greeting out
as the universe gains another year
so many things I could wish for all:
For those who have felt the heavy hand of nation
that says it loves peace
yet continues to sell weapons globally
I simply echo Lennon words
"but I am not the only one
hope some day you will join us
and the world will live as one"
For those who feel isolated
as if there is no empathy to be found
Sir Paul once told us,
"there is always someone, somewhere

Seed of Kindness
Listen to me closely
As I speak what must be spoken
It’s a knowledge we all contain
The silence has finally been broken
Open your eyes
Look around, what do you see?
I see misery, torture everywhere
And anywhere it could possibly be
There is hope
I also see a light
A light to lead the way
It shines so bright
No, it is not God’s light
Or any religious sphere
It’s just a light that reflects
The kindness of a person near
Not just anyone

Desert Mountains

Persuades a grin.

Let Me Be A Cloud.
I want to vanish into the sky
Let me be a shadow
That blends with the clouds
But as my soul cast upwards,
Let me leave behind a rainbow
For the sight of those,
Who've wanted me to stay here.
To let them know
That this is where I will be happy.
Not with my feet on the ground.
Moving through the dark days,
but drifting along in the blue and white.

I thought I saw Thoreau by a tree one day
no sound could be heard while he walked
I tried to present a greeting
his finger waved as if not to talk
The silence was best as I followed
to a brook that was running free
a smile lit up his face
no other place he more wanted to be
In a minute another came to attention
said quietly his name was Don
something familiar but couldn't say what
a southern accent but not too strong
We saw nest of birds all over
even an owl take to flight
at one moment the beauty overwhelmed

I'm from A close knit community
Some living in luxury
Which ease's the pain of those living in poverty
We don't feel the classism rivalry
Nor do we support the racism in society

Dry Paper
The water droplets crash to the pavement
Damping down the air to a crisp,
"Remember you're mortal" they whisper
And nature will have its way
Despite your trust and toil and
The dry paper you inhabit.
The mist engulfs shallow lungs and
Damp clothes cling for comfort
As the sky's nectar descends on
Flesh and concrete alike, pressing faces
Against the clear glass square that
Hangs from the 17th floor wall.
They say the heavens open and
I can't say I'm a believer but
I do seize these moments when ...
Damping down the air to a crisp,

He's always been a selfish bastard,"
my dad says, gearing up
into the same story
as the last time
and the time
before,
whenever anybody brings up
my grandfather's selfish habits.
"He's always loved his Sno-Caps—"
(those cheap nonpareil chocolates)
"—ever since we were young.
We sat and watched him eat them,
and he never once offered to share.
The only difference nowadays
is that he feeds two mouths
instead of eight
and can buy the name brand.
It's the little things like that
that stick with you, ...
