A Sky Without Clouds
All the clouds fled from the sky
So the people tried to get them back
Luring them with flowers the color of hard candy
Tempting them with songs that sounded sweet like children’s laughter
But the clouds kept drifting until
There was nothing but empty sky
And clear skies leave too much room for reflection
The people could not see the beauty in broken things
The sun was too honest, uninterrupted by clouds or filtered by fog
It burned their skin and made them feel
Transparent and overexposed like a film negative
And its hard to fall in love in a...

Possessions
Thoreau was right... so
let me make a few confessions
I yearn not to have a lot of possessions
the clothes that I like and my favorite book
picture albums and some utensils to cook
I like the idea of living on less
too many things can make such a mess
because how many things do people really need
in order to be happy and have enough to eat
robbing the earth of treasures galore
for what -- most people just want
when will it ever be enough ...

Dry Paper
The water droplets crash to the pavement
Damping down the air to a crisp,
"Remember you're mortal" they whisper
And nature will have its way
Despite your trust and toil and
The dry paper you inhabit.
The mist engulfs shallow lungs and
Damp clothes cling for comfort
As the sky's nectar descends on
Flesh and concrete alike, pressing faces
Against the clear glass square that
Hangs from the 17th floor wall.
They say the heavens open and
I can't say I'm a believer but
I do seize these moments when ...

War
We are kept awake
by police helicopters
and women screaming
in the street.
Packs of hooligans
chant for the blood
of passers by.
We are all here
in this dull war.
Unaware of it,
yet still tortured by it.
There is one impossible cure:
We realise
that we are in it
together.

Shakespeare's Rub
We, instinct's marionette?
These spider-strings dare we cut?
And escape to what?
Ah, again Shakespeare's rub!
So we, our own pallbearers...
Carry the weight...
Of our own embellished corpse;
Stumbling ever graveward!
Be there some escape,
B'hind pyrites-golden
Of olden drape?
Future glory or atrocity...
In de Grey'slongevity escape velocity?
But something more than me discerns!
For how now the juxtaposition turns.
For how the self-disgust and disdain;
If of that dead weight I am the same?
Ah,...
