"The Town That Ate Its Own Heart"

Cold,
The dead sky beats grey
scorched with the smell
of age old rust.

Twenty years ago
This graveyard
Was empty
Now the blind eyes
Of metal corpses
sucks at my feet
Like the clenched
Teeth of a rapid dog.

Some would say
The town was already dead
Its people a collection of ghosts
And faint echos that once
Ruled this golden utopia
As it now slipped through there
Once tight grasp.

Twenty years ago
Since the "Thacher-ite" landed
Taking the life's
And livelihood
Of its inhabitants
Without ever saying sorry.

Memories are all that remain
Along with the gaunt rusted memorials
To those poisoned here
Starved,
As this town
Was forced to eat its
own heart.

This town had
killed itself
But not without
A helping hand.

God save the queen indeed!!!
