Inward Turned

What do you do,
when you learn?

The feeling from the homecoming
was a lie.
That life has not changed,
that love has not created something new.
The mind gives glimpses of times past,
when home was a known place.

Where is the warm Brotherhood?

The shared times of trial,
all lost in dusty bolts of drunkenness.
Miles burned under tires,
skin burned by the wind,
we rode and ruled.
So far from jobs and families,
through miracles of woods and fields.

How do such deep emotions disappear?

She loved and then didn't,
cared and then ignored.
The flame burned out
as hope died and disappointment took its place.
There is a cave
where the shadows of lost loves go,
to wait for the moon to kill them.

Who do you turn to?

As the truth of loneliness
cuts through you like the wind from the coast.
You have creeped out
everyone brave enough to get close enough
to the spark of your failure.
How many times can they stand the abuse,
that stems from your dented mind?

Why should you endeavor to ensnare, another heart?

To know the repeated twist
of Love's knife in your gut.
To let the flames of passion
linger on the skin.
Only to burn through the nerves
and char your bones in the end.

When do these answers appear?

You are not getting any younger,
only more pinched in spirit.
You have forgotten more than they will learn,
without any chronicle to bear witness
to the journeys you set out on.
Your rants will be drowned out by the thunder.
