The highest bidder

Heaven went up for auction today.  
All inhabitants nursed dejection
in the heart of their rib cages;
hastily shedding wings into  
the bins provided-thank you.  
 
Satan proudly persists as the  
highest bidder, poised scarlet beside  
eagle-eyed Gods consumed with fight.  
Lightning bolts singe the air,
tsunamis anchored into their hands;
but you mustn't play with fire.
 
Impatient sparks nip at Time,  
chasing down the seconds.
Cupid offers final chances,
"Going once, going twice".
The hammer impacts the wood  
with an echoing thud.  
"Sold"
