Following the Dark

The dark! The dark!
It's everywhere.
It allows me to feel.
It allows me to think.

But behold, when the mind wanders-
it is you I remember.

Love, the bane of humanity.
It torments me.
My affection was free.
But you would not see.

After love, where do I go?
Is it hate?

Used and abused,
Tortured and mocked,
hated and feared,
what else did I have?

Of course!
I have one other choice!

Freedom at last!
These saviors!
They take away pain!
They will do me one better!

Their taste so bitter-
but in my mind so sweet.
For now I shall go-
forever to sleep.

Liberation from sorrow!
It will be here soon!
My mind is dazed,
my heart ablaze!

But what is this?
Fear? Could it be?

Wo unto me,
I am a fool!
This will be my end,
alone in solitude?

Why should this frighten me?
This was how I lived!
Why should I fear,
what I've always held so dear?

I cannot see,
I cannot think,
I cannot talk,
I cannot cry.
For here alone,
I die.

What?
How can this be?

I should have been gone,
but I see once again.
I can speak.
I can cry...

I shall live once more.
and face the dark.
So that another day,
I may die again another way.
