The Viking Expired

To a far-away land he would surely go,
His large battle axe would deal the blow.
The journey across the water was all but slow,
He would fight in the rain, he would fight in snow.

He would soon arrive, and end his quest;
To surprise a village not wanting this guest.
Of gold and silver he would plunder his best.
As the longboat approached, there was great unrest.

His leg left the boat, and fell in the sand,
He had finally come to conquer this land.
With his axe in his large sinewy hand,
He was ready to make his initial demand.

As he approached the villagers not expecting a fight,
a bow string was pulled with all the man’s might.
He never saw the arrow as it took flight,
It went through his neck, and he welcomed the night.
