Steps For Cleaning Your Room

Step 1) make your bed, this will give you a place to *ouch* fuck
Step 1)  put on shoes, this will keep you from stepping on hard objects or near spraining your ankle in the clothing monsters inhabiting your floor.
Step 2) make your bed, this will give you a nice place for piling your clothes to fold and then stacking objects while you are puzzling them into other locations around your room.
Step 3)  pick up all clothes, smell to determine freshness.  It is important to put into play a smell range test (no need for multiple numbers).  I use the 1-2 range.. a 1 being smelly (dirty), and a 2 being not so smelly(clean)
Dirty go in hamper, clean go on bed for folding.
Step 4) fold clothes to place in dresser and on hangars in closet...ok, side note...take glasses of half full water out of room first to avoid knocking over while throwing laundry onto freshly made bed...get towel.
Step 5) proclaim "theres that shirt!" while throwing it towards the closet. The task of hanging each individual shirt as they appear too daunting, you make the decision to hang them all later, when you get to it.
Step 6) now that the laundry is mostly folded stare down at the pile of socks left on your bed and ponder throwing them all out replacing with socks that ALL match EACH OTHER....it is best to just stuff them in the drawer and match them as they are needed.
Step 7)  acquire a grocery bag, scratch that, a 13 gallon trash bag to begin scraping up the sedimentary layer of trash.  Dont look to determine "stay or go", just judge by shape and feel in your hand.  substantial stays, small and delicate goes.  This helps the process along without accidentally throwing away books, sunglasses, bags of bottle caps, tea pot (what?), shoes, pillows, tubes of paint, measuring tape, pencils, oh cool - another beanie, etc.
Step 8) after you have finished stacking all other items on bed for organization, scrape them onto the floor and go make some food, check DUP, then turn on TV.   You've done enough cleaning for today.
