Do Trees Smile?

She stops walking,
Stares pensively at a tree,
And asks
Could you ever love me?

As I pass you so often
I faintly question
Is that tranquil sway a smile,
What's my impression?

Are your shiny drops of dew,
Filled with pain and anguish?
I fear I cannot hear you,
As your feeble branches languish

When the lightning has no mercy
On those dismal, rainy days,
Are you sad when I don't show?
Who else meets your gaze?

Does the light, whispering breeze,
So beautifully embrace me?
Is the golden sun your enemy,
Daring me to flee?

Your bright, hopeful leaves fall
And simply fly away.
Is your lucid loneliness
A sad moral, up for display?

Because even though
You could not possibly understand me
I still stop, stare, and wonder
Could you ever love me?
