Life's Bitches
You can always trust life
to dish out the good ol' times
make a person feel
that living is where it's at
then quick as a flash
it will have their soul
smashed into a thousand pieces
like that kitchen window
some child has thrown his ball through.
We, who smear white pages with words
can't help but see these things
then soak them right up into our brain
and when the time seems right, wring them out
drip by soul destroying drip
I often wonder, if we are a living curse
or mercenaries who circle the periphery
primed to spread life's brevity
like the photographer in a theater of war
always watching, recording, sharing
I rarely find it easy though to get past caring, and sometimes
even with the distance,it's all too close for comfort.

Strider,
cheers for stopping by man, probably best to stop wondering and get on with whatever it is we do.

Your use of the word "brevity" is intriguing me here Eamonn. It almost has negative connotations. Is that intentional ?

Maggie,
almost? I'd have thought the first stanza had very negative connotations, though at least the first has some level of nice in it.
brevity was intentional but I think I might change it 'cos it seems to be sticking out.
thanks, for dropping into the zone and throwing some words at it :)

T.S
tempted to say you'll get it at some stage, though I think you're on to something.
much to ponder here. ..are you preposition-ing me? gonna change that line a bit, maybe throw in a bit of clarity for the peepers.
always happy to go thrilling people, many thanks for the in-depth-ness

Only time I heard a taffy Welsh accent was while watching the Darling Buds of may ..and I'm sure she put that on too :)

A ponderous angle.
"primed to spread brevity for life"
Interesting word structure here, I liked it. Uncomfortable and forceful.

a curious angle I s'pose, but given the nature of the beast, probably the most obvious one too.

Love the second to last stanza, as you've hit it spot on with that. It's exactly how it feels sometimes.
Nice penning.
