A Sinner's Plea
Sing me a lullaby to make me sleep
A song that makes me sink so deep
Into the land that deep dark realm
where sinners and innocents dream
The soothing song that induces slumber
will make me forget my waking blunder
of sinning against my fellow man
To claim, to need what is not mine
The sins abound in my darkened soul
I lied, I killed, I plunder, I stole
Every single things that I could reach
as long as they made me filthy rich
So now this final lullaby
sing it right and sing it high
Hold that knife strong and hard
and plunge it into my evil heart.
A song that makes me sink so deep
Into the land that deep dark realm
where sinners and innocents dream
The soothing song that induces slumber
will make me forget my waking blunder
of sinning against my fellow man
To claim, to need what is not mine
The sins abound in my darkened soul
I lied, I killed, I plunder, I stole
Every single things that I could reach
as long as they made me filthy rich
So now this final lullaby
sing it right and sing it high
Hold that knife strong and hard
and plunge it into my evil heart.

Though probably not your intent, when I read this I thought of the early captains of industry who often could be quite ruthless in creating businesses and often monopolies.
Quite insightful a read into the mind of an individual as well.

Thanks Jazzmanor. I think. I know what you mean. As a child, books were usually the old type. Being in a commonwealth country, our school literature were like Midsummer's Night Dream, The Mills on the Floss among many others. We read Charles Dickens and George Eliot, among others. I swear we knew about Dick Whittington and his cat, more than our own folk tales. So thats why you get that impression from some of my writings.

This poem reminded me strongly of many of the epic Shakespearean villains and how some could turn out to be quite tragic figures from time to time. Very classical vibe I got from this one! I loved it. Dark, eloquent, and brilliant writing.
