Needing a little Respect

Respect is earned they said
Can it be true
For whatever I do
I never get any respect around here

I baked a pretty cake for him
My pretty blue eyed boy
Hoping he'd respect my efforts
He looked at it and stifled a laugh

I tried too hard to earn respect
I swot  at school and got all As
Coming  home to show by parents
My happy dog ate it instead

How do I get some respect  
from around here
I tried to wash laundry
Brush all shoes and sundry

But nobody cares what I do
Or have achieved
What do I do
To get some respect here...
