Apple for the Teacher

An apple
a day kept the vet away
all last winter. Green
grannies taste the best.

Don’t bite
off more than the piece
I offered you. Fingers
take a long time to heal.

Carrots
on the other hand, crunch
nicely when bitten off
snip-snap with big teeth.

Your feet
are called hooves, horse;
pick um up, put um down
close to mine, but not on.

My feet
are too small to stand on
by a big boy who weighs
over nine hundred pounds.

You know
where apples come from?
No, not from an orchard;
me, your very best friend.

I know
you’re busy teaching me
while I’m teaching you;
we’ll both win in the end.
