Glass jars
It's all there for us
sometimes we're just unaware
or don't care too much
for giving up the comfort
of 'it's ok'
we'd rather store our hearts
in a glass jar
preserved in cider vinegar
like a pickle
tell ourselves, we've no need
to feel the beating
and even though the fire
is down to its embers
it'll still glow warm for a time
and for the time being
warm is ok
"sure, if it gets any colder
there's always room
for another layer of synthetic clothing
and the self loathing
doesn't phase me much anymore
not like it used to"
sometimes we need a good kick
to knock us
the fuck out of the past
and into the middle
of next week
many thanks to The Jesta for the beautiful reading

“When we get out of the glass bottles of our ego,
and when we escape like squirrels turning in the
cages of our personality
and get into the forests again,
we shall shiver with cold and fright
but things will happen to us
so that we don't know ourselves."
I was compelled to quote this for your ink!
This was truly an Astonishing read! :)

Hemi,
yeah, I think this poem might easily fall under the 'harden the fuck up' category .
you're right, a work of genius it ain't, and by god if I'd have known you were in the middle of commenting I'd have deleted the bastard :)
all seriousness aside though, I'm more undecided 'bout this one than any other one. Like you say I like the idea too. I think I can improve on it a little over the next few days.
pleased to have your eyes run over it.
thanks much.

re: Re: Glass jars
Missy,
It is a bit of an odd mix right enough. The idea behind the jars was to try and articulate how sometimes we will put our hearts on hold promising ourselves we'll come back to them at some stage but ultimately settling for warm or worse. the rest deals with dressing things up so they seem better, or at least acceptable as they get colder.
very much appreciate your insight here, very astute and detailed as per.
thanking you much-ly :)

I am with Missy on the mixing of your metaphors.(which might be a place to work on if you so choose) But I will say this reads aloud beautifully as Jesta has proven.
Much enjoyed Eamonn :)

Maggie,
It's a tough one. on the one hand the mix of metaphors, appeal to me because it's an odd mix.
and hearing it spoken kind of endears me to it some more.
I'll have to spend some time going through it and see where I can Improve upon it. its a matter of knuckling down and making it happen.
I thank you for your visit, and I'm sure Jesta smiled when she read your comment.

Haven't actually taken the time to read your work until now, and I'm god damn glad I did, you write with a personal, and passionate style. Liking the imagery and the metaphors bring it home. Pretty damn good Eamon! Thanks for the read man.

Jack,
sorry for the delay man, missed this comment altogether.
yeah. they call me Max Clifford :D
I think I could probably drop synthetic from that line, originally I was trying to project 'fake' but as you rightly point out I should be giving the reader more credit.
I'll add this one to the growing list of 'needs a work over' and get to it at some stage before the turn of the century.
nah, fucking with you :) I'll sort this out soon enough.
Thanks for dropping by Jack, appreciate your thoughts man.
