Dear April,

I always felt invisible
lost, unsure, confused.
I had no control
over my world.

I wish I could say
what it is like
to find yourself
at last.

At last

I have yet to claim my freedom.

I wait, still
for the day, that day
when I will no longer
make excuses.

I fear, though,
I will.

and yet

Despite my prison
My guilt, my time,
I have learned a truth.
So sweet, yet hard
so hard to face,
that helps me
make it through.

Now

I have control,
it's mine, my own
and no one
can take it from me.
I choose who I
become

But

The power is pure
responsibility.
I am no longer the victim
of pressures, of people
There is no one to blame

I do or I don't
and that can be...
a little bit scary

and

Sometimes I fall
Excuses abound
I give up the power freely

To have the comfort
of little or no
Responsibility.

This is me
My choice, my fear
that I am not enough.

That I cannot
get up again
or be of any worth.

Do not fear, April.

To fall is to learn
to rise is to choose
to be more
more than this.

You have power
It is yours, your own,
A part that can never
be taken.

You

See nothing
in case
you discover
you
are much less than you thought.

Your fighting a battle,
you doubt your defense,
but to give up is to lose
yourself

Do not surrender
Your fight is for good
And the good guys
always
win.

Remember

the power to chose
belongs to you
as long as you chose
to keep it
