Ordinary Joe:
The Fully-Posable Corporate Yes-man
A fear of success, always, far more than rejection
A star's born, bound to fall; doubt forward-direction
Start pouring the alcohol, ground-floor his ascension..
Hope you know his cul-de-sac, 'cause I relate to hate within
I sold my soul and stole it back, then I escaped the gates again
If this is Hell on Earth.. Talk of gated communities
Items that sell as birth, then walks and ages so beautifully
It's Ordinary Joe.. Sort of wary though
So he killed his social network status, 'mortuary flow'
With that little numeral symbol.. Keep the funeral simple
Like their dialogue.. Type a lie, and deny the fog
Hide your eyes at the sight of God
"I'd apply for that kind of job"; righteous guy..
Tight disguise of a spineless fraud
Perfect conservative worker-bee.. Not so fast..
Search the terms of our nursery regarding pertinent service fees
Quality guaranteed, built.. Anywhere but here..
Let me break anyway, live every day, in fear..
They say we're orchestrating evil, but corporations are people too
Coordinating sheeple, and fornicating as we would do
Weapons of mass consumption.. Lacking in substance
That, in conjunction with fact that corruption is vast and destructive
Passive.. Reluctant; lasting injustice; apocalypse?.. Imminent..
America is not synonymous with innocence
Mission accomplished anonymous citizens
We're ordering a latte.. Instead of revolution
And listening to "god-say", what better-said delusion?

You "speak" your work don't you ? I believe it was late 70's, early 80's Patty Smith worked with Burroughs on spoken word recordings. This reminds me of such when read aloud.

Such enjoyable satire with just a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor, to be sure!! Your reference to Hell as a "gated community"--that caught me somewhat by surprise, but I definitely paused in my reading to smile out loud at that clever phrasing. Poor Joe--lacking self-confidence--doubting himself and his abilities to ascend any corporate ladder...to the point that "drowning his sorrows" in alchohol brought comfort and assurance that Joe--both literally, and figuratively--never rises above the ground floor! ("Start pouring the alcohol, ground floor his ascension..") I smiled sadly at this apt description.
Regrettably, our nation has lost sight of perhaps its most precious resource--the INDIVIDUAL, ordinary "little" man/woman, whose daily needs for survival are seemingly ground to dust beneath the heels of the large, greedy corporations, who in turn, scatter that dust out upon the "out-sourced winds"in favor of profits attained through cheap labor. (or other means of ill-gotten gains.)
Your insight in this piece is just soo spot on!
Those who have managed to survive in our society are, for the most part, "perfectly" imperfect carbon copies whose lives are centered more in virtual, than actual, reality.
I think the most outstanding phrase is this:..."but corporations are people too-Coordinating sheeple"...large corporate companies whose CEO's organize workers who are willing to blindly follow their leaders w/o any questions asked! So creative!!
This is poem is such a unique, well-written commentary that addresses so many of the issues that are causing our country to gradually self-destruct.

Thank you! These pieces are all for my upcoming gallery project. It's a conceptual character study with two comic book-like characters based on the polar opposite sides of myself. Ordinary Joe represents my antagonist (The corporate American conformist, super-imposed social standard, etc). The villain, if you will.. I like to joke that the zombie apocalypse happened a long time ago. A zombie, like the average American, is just a mindless consumer, LOL!
I've been trying to bring a satirical side to this project, as it is very dark. I'm glad to know it's coming through! I figure if I'm going to be jamming my philosophies down their throats, If I can make them smirk while making them angry, perhaps the pill will be easier to swallow!
