Hands In My Pockets

As I walk through a dark town
The sun will soon rise,
But it is bitterly cold...
For the middle of summer.

As the dawn breaks
And the birds begin to rise.
It is only then that I recognize,
That I had been up all night.

I walked aimless through that town
Searching for an answer
To a question
That I have has always had.

I look in the woods,
And in the store windows,
Searching for something
that was so unknown.

Yesterday I tried to ask the priest,
But he turned me away.

So I went to the monk,
But he obviously had nothing to say.

So I decided to set off,
To find you.
And ask you myself.

Why did you leave me so soon?

Humbly I approach the great gates
And the sun is shining now.
I walk up to Pete and I say,
That I am here to speak to you.

He lets me in as a momentary visitor,
As I scan the world in front of me.
I see you approach with your big beaming smile,

Yet there is a look of distress in your eyes.

How did you get here my child?
You asked.
I couldn’t look you in the eyes.

I shove my hands deep down into my pockets
As if trying to find the right words to pull out.

I jumped off the bridge so that I could find you
Grandpa.

I knew that you would be here.

Oh Rachael!
You exclaimed with a moan of realization,
And that’s when it hit me.

I was dead now,
In the eyes of all that I once loved.
Everything was gone now.

Because no one could give me the answer.

So I walked out of the gates to the place that I could not stay.
And took the elevator down.

It grows hotter
And my hands begin to sweat.
So I put them into my pockets once again.

The doors open and I am surrounded by fire.
It was then I knew this wasn’t worth it.

Lucifer stands in front of me,
His eyes wild and his intentions
The farthest thing from sane.

I get scared of what I am seeing
And suddenly realize this was my new forever.

I take in one last deep breath
As I slide my hands deep into my pockets.
I step out of the elevator doors,

And fall down, down, down
Because hell has no floors.
