The Greatest Story Ever Written

And there it was,

Spoken across the distance of the deep,

The life that was us

You had planned so quietly

And fashioned so delicately my face;

Our face.

We walked and talked with you.

We smiled and laughed with you.

We asked you questions and you answered.

It was perfect bliss.

And our shame was far from you.

For to love is not to be ashamed.

And there he came.

Smooth and enticing words

Sweet and sour to the lips,

Feeding our curiousity and the lusts we created.

She fell for them and he overtook her.

Step one of deception complete.

He knew she was all he loved.

He knew it.

And he knew that for love, he would take on shame.

She spoke curly words that wrapped around his heart.

She spoke curly, dirty, flirty words.

Words that made him feel larger than life

Feeding his lusts and preying on his ego.

Oh perversed love!

Such power has love over all.

For love he would put himself to shame freely

He knew she lied.

He was neither deceived or overtaken,

Except by the curve of her hips and the light of her eyes.

He knew he could only love her.

He was not ashamed to die.

For he would rather be like her and with her and dead

Than be without her forever.

He loved.

YOU knew we would do it.

YOU knew what you made.

After all we are only your thoughts put in dirt.

You asked him why and he said her.

You knew you saw yourself talking somewhere in all the mess.

For love knows itself.

For this you could not be ashamed.

You could not curse us for your works,

So you cursed the ground.

To keep your words you evicted us.

Your love never stopped.

You knew we knew and that through the generations, someone would call you lover again.

Days, months, years, millenia

You waited and watched and longed.

And on that special day you said

Prepare me a body. That you did.

You planted yourself in earth with us.

You grew up walking and talking as we do.

You came to buy us back with your affection in exchange for our perversed lusts.

Breathing our breath and overcoming our falls

You lived, a lighthouse to an ocean of wrath,

Calling ships to shore.

In the last attempt at love you walked to your death willingly.

You knew what you were going to do.

You knew what you wrote from the very beginning.

After all, we were only your thoughts in dirt

And the scroll was written before time came.

You knew.

We ask you why.

You say us.

You saw you in us and never forgot us, your first love.

For you know yourself.

Your face was bruised and your body broken to its last.

You smiled in the face of the enemy and said "Forgive them!"

It was all for the woman you loved from the beginning, your bride.

We had your rib and you could not be without us.

You would rather live and die like us than be without us.

To the last breath you saw our first dance

You sang our song.

And now days, weeks, months, years, millenia pass

Touched by the feelings of our infirmities you stand,

Life for our death

Love for our hate

Care for our bruises and heart for stone,

Propitiation for all who want you back,

Showing us how to never fall again.
