To The Girls

Forgive me.
I stole a glance up your shirt
While helping you manage the ladder.

I can still see the heart
You inscribed upon my hand
That day, I hadn’t any clue.
Now I know, I should have known
I would be great friends with you.

With a most ecstatic hug,
I soaked in your laugh.
Your smile, my photograph, your sculpture,
Someone would say
They mirrored one another.

Coming in from the beach,
Sunburned in the dark,
I bend down and wash your feet,
We are sandy. Giddy. Restless.
The dirt of the day washes out to the street.
