Insomnia

Sleep escapes me
thoughts race
running faster
quickened pace
two a.m.
wide awake
brain exhausted
need a break
body aching
muscles sore
bed too soft
move to floor

Tonight’s events
consume my mind
brain is working
overtime
tomorrow’s fears
zip through my head
wondering
what will be said

Wasting time
with what I think
bite the bullet
see a shrink
gives me meds
to take at night
nothing works
a nightly fight
