Is Love Not a Hard Thing

1.

You would say:  "Is

love not a hard thing,

something to be worked

at, like Victorian novels

or scraps of untilled soil?"

You would look at me and cryingly

weep, for I would be as silent

as your whispering lushest of lips.

2.

You would say:  "Love is like

the metaphor of a path."  You

would ask me where it would

lead, although I never knew, never

assurred you:  we would peer at

each other's clown faces, wear

our masks until we suffocated.
