Truth

Truth

There will be a day
when the world will see
that which is not
a created hypocrisy,
where the truth will stand
proud and strong,
not something made up
conveniently to cover a wrong.

Truths the sighted refuse to see,
that the hearing will not hear,
and truths the literate
do not want to read.
“All things done in the dark
will come out in the light”,
then the vermin will run
to hide themselves from sight.

The brave won’t hide
their shamed face
even if it means
their own disgrace;
honesty, integrity and dignity
are not antiquated traits,
but essential to a person’s identity
big or small, minor or great.

We all owe the people
that believe in us the truth
no matter how brutal it seems
or how terribly uncouth.
When endeavor to lie
we create a web trap
that eventually will mean
our character demise.

Tell the truth every day
never carry that stain
on you name,
hopefully you will never
have to bow your head in shame
but if it should happen…
humility builds
character just the same.
