A Valentine's Wish

(this was a request from my wife, for her on Valentine's day. It also was runner up in the 'Love..anniversary' contest)

You wish me to write
a poem for you,
a Valentine's love note -
a task hard to do.

I'll give it a try
'cause it's what you desire,
and to grant you your wish
is to what I will aspire.

I'll try not to be corny
nor silly, or cliche,
so here I begin
this intimate fray.

My greatest desire is
to be with you forever,
you've stayed by my side
through all sorts of weather.

From bright days and cheer
to darkness and pain,
you've been the shelter I run to
as my moods wax and wane.

You've been patient with me
yet put me in my place,
you let me rant and rave
but when needed, got in my face.

You are the glue that
keeps me together,
without you as my rock
I would blow away like a feather
and be adrift... alone...
   for ever and ever.

You are my grounding and
a board for my sounding,
and when enough is enough
I get a very stern warning.

To tell you how much
to me you are meant,
I need more than a day -
more than twenty-four hours
allows me to say.

You are my past, present, future,
through every fiber in my body,
to the depths of my soul,
Happy Valentine's Day, Love,
I think we're on a role.
