Angel... (part three)

Our short love span
Did not last long enough
I was too weak to save you
When things got too rough

Approaching me daily
Bruised burned and bleeding
I'd gently take you in my arms
To listen to your pleading

"Take me away, I can't handle this!"
You'd scream into my chest
Then you'd punch,I'd wince a bit
But I'd silently take the rest

I knew your home life wasn't the best
I'd try to relieve you when I could
Let you escape into my world
That is, when you would

I started to notice
The cuts on your arms
You assured me it was nothing
And to not be alarmed

Then one day I caught you
Red handed in the act
A razorblade tightly in your grasp
And an empty bottle of Jack

A scream erupted from my mouth
I ripped the metal from your grip
Your glassy eyes stared blankly at me
As your blood began to drip

I jerked you to your drunken feet
Tugged you to the sink
Wiped the blood up from your wrists
You insisted I take a drink

Then you cackled and rolled back your head
What a distrubing sight to behold
My Adilene was lost in the daze
From doing what she was not told

The incidents kept occurring
Growing steadily worse and worse
I did all that you'd let me do
But you refused to escape your curse

Claiming it was your only escape
That I simply was not enough
Tears welled up on my eyes
Was I not your "diamond in the rough?"

You started drifting slowly away
Rarely coming by my room
Little did I actually know
You were spiraling towards your doom

You hadn't shown up in a week
You hadn't texted or called
So I ventured to your house that day
To find your family apalled

Your weeping mother gave me no help
So I pushed through the crowd of cops
Ignoring the yells behind me
I hastily climbed the stairs to the top

Sprinting to your room
My heart pounding in my ears
All I wanted to see
Was the one I held so dear

A note lay on the carpet
Right outside the closet door
The house was quiet, the air was still
There was a pool of blood on the floor

I silently prayed as I opened the door
I cautiously peeked inside
But with the sight I beheld
My faith instantly died

Your body lay limp on the floor
Mouth twisted in a wicked grin
Empty eyes stared straight ahead
Never to see me again

A bloody knife lay beside your leg
Glinting in the light
Your wrist resembled ground up meat
You had sliced with all your might

Tears of anger welled up in my eyes
I buried my face in your hair
Laying against your blood-soaked corpse
I would have forever stayed there

But soon enough the police burst in
And pulled me off of you
Away from your ice cold carcass
There was nothing I could do

The funeral was quite a mess
Relatives sobbing everywhere
I stayed in the corner with red rimmed eyes
Covering my face with my hair

Even now, I shudder
When I hear your name, my dear
Adilene, the name of an angel
Who, for a short time, drew me near...
