This Demon
A welcome distraction from
Responsibility and sensibility,
This demon I embraced.
Allowing the deception, I
Wander in its world, lost and
Bewildered, forging my own chains.
Within its realm, it swoops down and
Sinks its venomed fangs
Into my flesh once and twice.
I seethe at the sting of helplessness.
Allowed a respite long enough to
Assess damage, I start to dread.
The next ambush brings deeper poison and
ensnares. I roar and swing at
Shadows. Oh, for a drop of relief!
A well of black water serves me, or
This fragrant brush that burns. Unearthed
Scurrying scorpions hold comfort in their tail.
I numb myself with these impurities.
Intoxicated with delusions of failure,
I rejoice in my impending destruction.
