Glancing Away
Walking by
or driving by you
on the street,
I see
your eyes avert
so as not to catch
the glance
that wants to know
your face
and see the wisdom
in your eyes,
so used to being scaled
and weighed
in contrast
to the others
in the sea
that you simply
cannot fathom
that I see
the soul beneath.

Thank you, Scattered_Thoughts....we see this every day and I would hope to see the freedom to just look up and feel at peace.
When I do see it, I see real beauty and fearlessness and wisdom and self-acceptance. I know that I do not have to suffer the constant barrage of come on's and harassment, so it is way easier to intellectualize than to do it.

That shared meaning can be indeed very tough to handle when eyes collide. Of course the interesting thing is this avoidance isn't confined to lovers. The range can go from anything to father-daughter, boss-worker, to the one I deal with the most, educator-student.
