Glancing Away

Walking by
or driving by you
on the street,
I see
your eyes avert
so as not to catch
the glance
that wants to know
your face
and see the wisdom
in your eyes,
so used to being scaled
and weighed
in contrast
to the others
in the sea
that you simply
cannot fathom
that I see
the soul beneath.
