Sun Child (For the Blind Sunrise Challenge)

I press my hands over those sightless,
Restless, eyes.
I whisper in setting sunlight.
“Forget what the world has told you.
What you might see.
Just remember that you are like the sun.
When it sets,
it does not know its path,
it too knows fear,
of the unknown darkness.
The sun only knows what it touches,
its reach maybe further than yours,
but it too knows
what it is
For it’s home to be a stranger.
If it could,
the sun could tell you how,
when it eases into the ocean,
it wonders how far its depths reach?
Where all its hidden dangers may be?
Still you both dive it to the vastness,
sea born and brave,
you rise again beautiful.
The sun may set,
close its great eye,
leaving us all blinded.
You are like the sun my darling
you give life to me.
When you open your eyes again,
the sun may have left,
but we are never sightless.
Its warmth remains next to me,
With my baby'.
