Skin Deep

As I flip through stations on T.V.
listening to the worlds view of beauty
I slip into a silent rage as what is considered
pretty....looks nothing like me

I am NOT a video queen
though I know I can dance like one
my frame does not reflect a set of
44 DD's
Yet I know how to mentally tease his
mind with ease...
I am not the porno vixen
who makes money on her knees
though my lovin is finger lickin
I'm the chick with a couple of degrees

I am not the woman who is  96 pounds
5'9 or a perfect size 3
I am thick with plump hills and valleys
I was built....phenomenally...
As I watch
our youth get poisoned by the media
that swears they are telling the truth
As America's Top Model ratings go through
the roof...got little girls all over the world
drinking nothing but juice...
and  cans of ensure.....
I can not take it anymore!
There is too much emphasis on beauty
big boobs and booty's
Or super thin girls who look like
"Cover Girls" that take away your breath
when in truth 1 in every 65 super models
careers end in death.

How dare the media say I wont be loved unless
I look like Tyra or Cyndi Crawford,
what about the girls next door
who are cute, and get degrees from Harvard

I'm tired of the way we get brainwashed everyday
into believing that being thin is better than breathing

Not saying that it's okay to stuff my face...
but I AM going to enjoy life...because I like
how life taste...

I like how my body fits into a pair of jeans
not super tight but just right....they just cling

I like my glasses that I wear
and my boy shorts underwear
I like just wearing enough make up
so you can barely see it there.

and where does the race for beauty get us anyway
Just look at the tragedy with that little girl
John Benet....
Karen Carpenter died from cardiac arrest
because "she wanted to appear more attractive"
she felt that "thin" made her look best

As America continues to starve its self
its our souls that weep
When will the world learn
that Beauty....
is only Skin Deep.
