St. Mary's Maternity Ward

Flowers are not always sent
To the one who has been expecting
It could just be a young girl alone
Staring at the ceiling
Waiting for the next contraction
In a Catholic hospital with statues of the Virgin Mary throughout the room
Hands folded in prayer with her smug little smile
For two days the girl just smiled right back
and considered naming the baby Jesus
