Adventures in Production to Corporate America

Chapter 1 Production:
Fresh off that steady bullshit I was fed “If you work hard, you get ahead”
Sike!
Thinking I was on a level of clear cut cluelessness, but really, it’s all about whether they like you or not
While some boast of promotions gained on their back, and attack me saying I moved departments solely because I’m Black
Bitch please
Unlike her, I didn’t need to get on my knees trying to please the supervisor so I could climb allegedly higher
I used this thing called a “res-u- me”
And school
This was before I entered the building to receive race fueled ridicule and sexual discrimination in a male dominated workplace.

Hey…I guess it’s my own fault for not being “hot” enough.
So I got tough enough
And dealt with the hand I was given
Until one day I decided I was done
I did what was appropriate… I went to HR
The road got rough, I got shunned, further harassed and retaliated against
For two years after I lost the case I told the whole world to get bent
The company changed the handbook to prevent a suit based on my experience
And forced us to sign it
If I didn’t I’d get fired
After my back and wrists were spent I began to search for another place to get hired

Chapter 2: Corporate

Over the course of 3 years I put production work behind me.
On to more fulfilling things, I took the corporate world lightly
I thought it was great because they hired me with dreads
I scratched off the ticket, and this is what it said:
While you’re new we will allow the boss to bully you until you move to a different shift.
We will have you train people so they could surpass you and watch you drift
When you ask for a promotion we’ll deny you some more
After that, we will not promote you due to “personality flaws” even though we never spoke or saw you before.
After you beg enough people to mention your value to the company
We’ll promote you, but we’ll do it begrudgingly
From there everybody will commend you on your expertise, while higher ups patronize you with a smile, or e-mail you with the tone of a child.
When that doesn’t work, we’ll accuse you of crude conversation at work while on your day off
After you effectively scoff at them with proof of the lie, we will slyly accuse you of incorrectly processing documents at a time when you were away.
Meanwhile the HR person denies your medical reimbursement account submission after she intentionally mentioned the wrong date of the yearly deadline
I couldn’t stand her ass no way
How she scowled at me with distain no matter how polite I was, when I asked others about her behavior towards them, they said they can’t complain.
And these people wonder why employees go insane?!
That explains another valuable lesson in life I got
A job interview ain’t nothing but people standing on the auction block
Hoping to get bought or sold to slave masters with their eye on the hunt

Naw Suh..I don’t wont ta be yo field negro of the month.
