Slow Cajun Waltz

Come dance with me slow Cajun waltz
barefoot and oblivious to the world
just the night air, the music and us…
Listen to the crickets serenade
as the lazy southern
summer night stretches its way…

Hmmm…

It is so hot, bodies covered
in a fine sheen of perspiration,
the smell moonshine permeates the air
along with magnolias and bougainvilleas
in bloom, the night speaks to the romantic souls…

heiii…,

The fiddler says and the accordion accompanies,
we continue to dance this slow Cajun waltz
as distinct as your southern drawl.
The gumbo is almost ready,
the smells are getting heady,
“feed the drunks” they say,
keep them going till the break of day…

ding, ding, ding…

The triangle rings…
they are ready to serve the meal.
The tables are arranged all around the yard,
no fancy restaurants, no linen cloths,
this is a “good ol Cajun dance”,
gator nuggets, frog legs and all…
