Conversations

Not in a hurry
to leave our conversation,
I stayed
and sipped coffee
by myself
until the restaurant closed.

They kicked me out
and I walked alone
down the street
until I came
to a bar
and I sat
on a stool
and thought
about my drink
until closing,
and then the lights
came on
and they ushered me
out again.

I went home
and sat
in a chair
waiting
in front
of a window
and they evicted me
because I did not pay
the rent
because I got fired
for not going
to work.

I sat
on the curb
in my chair
until the city came
and took it away,
and told me
that if I didn't move along
they would arrest me,
and when they let me out
I remembered
it's your birthday,
so I wrote you
this card.
I miss our
conversations.
