Daylilies

I may seem distant
from the ends
of your sweet finger tips
but I swear
that I'm no further
than your tender lips
in May
when lilies bloom
just by the day,
their swollen petals
leaning in the breeze.

That memory
can bring me
to my knees
to pollenate
the legends
of our lost
and thoughtless
spendings.

And then the beds
of newly tossing
shredded weathered
buds
that pass along
their evening song
will seed
year in and out
the lonely stars away.
