A Goddess Reborn

- A Goddess Reborn -

In the coldest chill of the embracing night,
Unusual, for the dawn of pleasant spring…
I feel a cold as numb as any winter’s blight.
My heart dreads what the morn might bring.
And yet I do fight on, for I cannot do other.
My hand has grasped the hot, distant stars!
There is no ceasing of my darkest thoughts.
I am the child, and I am the exiled mother.
A veteran of the angels’ mad ancient wars,
In which my fallen spirit, once had fought.

Human beings I had loved did forsake me,
As I came amongst them, eyes a-weeping!
In this age of madness, as dire as can be…
Wherein men are blind as if silent sleeping.
But this age cannot endure before the hour,
Which hastens even now to secret altars…
Raised by inhuman hands and wills unseen:
On which my hands called forth the power.
The force that is divine, and never falters!
I look up at Venus, and behold her gleam.

The black new moon looms above, somewhere…
Dark in the heavens, like death embodied.
Beautiful and seductive is her hidden glare!
I can feel her, with a part of me so freed…
From the sleep that mortals walk in nightly.
Join me in my reverie, my fellow children…
I was once like you, but then I did awake!
Some call me mad but I speak ever rightly.
And one day will arise my blessed garden,
More lovely than any a mortal may make.

Black are the flowers but they will change.
The colors of the cosmos will anoint them,
With sacred beauty both alien and strange!
My beauty that so many did falsely condemn…
But, my arms stay open for all to embrace.
I was there in the first garden, so long ago!
My breath was upon the cool waters beneath…
Why has mankind forgotten my true face?
I have returned, for the sleepers to know!
So awaken, and claim the victor’s wreath.
