Away & Away (Sound of Glory)
Smoking & thinking the night
away.
Maybe I'll hitch a ride
to Paris,
or maybe just home
to see what I have yet to see.
A drink here,
& another drink
there.
A cat in a tree,
& rain in the clouds.
I'm washing myself in strange waters
falling from stranger
places.
I'm drinking myself dry,
& I'm thinking much-too-much.
I've sworn myself stupid
too many times,
& I've found so much
that has yet to be seen.
God hangs limp
from the power lines above,
I think of fire
& midnight
as my thumb stretches toward heaven.
Off to Paris. Off to Rome.
Off to somewhere
I have yet to know.
I will call this place
beautiful
once I find it,
but until then
I will watch strange things,
such as mice fucking
behind thin curtains
as Mozart commands his glorious sound.
