Why I Had to Go

I loved you for the pain,
for having me love the abuse.
But inside it was hurting me
and I'm sorry, but I just can't take it anymore.

I want to stop hurting,
to not desire death.
I want to be happy
and you couldn't let me do that.

You said you were on an island
and we could only be happy if I was there too.
But I started to look out
and I saw something I wanted.

Happiness.
That absence of the pain
and the fear.
And I saw someone who could help me.

Please realize,
I loved you very much.
But I had to save myself
because my demons were catching up.
