A broken promise.
I never break a promise,
I never go back on my word,
I want you to be happy,
Even if it means I'm hurt.
I promised you it wouldn't change us,
I promised you laughter and smiles.
Now I'm hungover yet again,
Pressing my head against cool tiles.
Trying to remember why I did what I did,
Why I let it get to me.
You can blame me if you like,
I do, frequently.
I can still feel your skin underneath my hands,
I can still remember needing you so much,
Remember wanting to cover you with my lips,
I can still remember your gentle touch.
Ok, I lied, I did like you.
But since when did I ever tell the truth?
I'd rather a friend than nothing at all,
Just promise you won't watch me fall.
I fell off the wagon, it's not your fault.
Don't look at me with those eyes.
You've known me for too long,
This can't have been much of a surprise.
You know how fiery I can get,
When matters of the heart are in play.
I promised you it wouldn't change a thing,
A broken promise at the end of the day.
I never go back on my word,
I want you to be happy,
Even if it means I'm hurt.
I promised you it wouldn't change us,
I promised you laughter and smiles.
Now I'm hungover yet again,
Pressing my head against cool tiles.
Trying to remember why I did what I did,
Why I let it get to me.

I can still remember needing you so much,
Remember wanting to cover you with my lips,
I can still remember your gentle touch.
