situations have been overlapping
like roofing tiles
and the days get harder
to remember

i fear how i've been playing
with the edge on my words
like how i used to mindlessly whittle hair-
ties with kitchen knives

and how they always snapped
faster than my eyes could follow
or so fast that my reaction
wasn't worth portraying

then the night sets in
