The rose eternally wilted
For the life of her dearest
Has been taken from him

Five long years he held her

Had checked the boys coat pocket instead

Meant for the finger of his lover that night

The night he would have asked for her hand
To be his own until the end of time
Was the night his life was taken from him
And ending the happiest years of her life in vain
