DODGING BULLETS.

We are in the army now, with all our training done
Fighting for Queen and country until the battles won
We’re not fighting on our shores, but in a foreign land
To protect the ones we love, we have to make a stand
I don’t fear the task ahead and neither do the others
We’re here to do our job, a trusting Band of Brothers
For months we fight, dodging bullets in a land so far away
Watching our numbers dwindle as we lose friends each day
We sit and think of family, our children, and our wives
And death sits at our shoulder as we go on losing lives
Then out on patrol one day, my life ran out of time
“Death’s bullet” was to find me as I stood upon the mine
My body’s been ‘repatriated’, to the land I loved so dear
While I’ve gone to a far away place I need no longer fear
My remains in Wooten Bassett, a place that I don’t know
Trundling down the high-street in a procession oh so slow
There’s people standing all around with tears in their eyes
Here to pay their last respects, say their last goodbye’s
I’ve never wanted to be here, on that I can't pretend
For to justify my presence means my life's come to an end
Death’s final bullet came in disguise, one I didn’t see
So my life’s over, now all I ask is Please Remember Me.
