The Desire to Be Normal

Everyone has this desire to be normal,
But what does being normal really mean?
 
This burning desire that we have inside, to be a certain standard, gets us nowhere,
But, yet, we still cave to the world’s dare.
The dare to be different from humanity.
To abide by everyone’s standards is pure insanity.
 
We long to be ordinary.
It is a burden we all carry.
How can we crave this,
Like we would a lover’s kiss?
 
It has to come to a halt.
This is beginning to develop into a cult.
Taking over the minds of the young,
And existing throughout adulthood,
Until they take that final breath out of their lung.
 
Be aware.
Let us stop this from becoming our worst nightmare.
Let’s take a stand.
Lend a hand.
Do not bow down!
Not to the one who wears the “popular” crown.
Be yourself and let others know that you are proud.
Scream it loud.
Let this desire become a thing of the past.  
Let’s alter what people think is normal and make it last.
