More factoids: with commentary!

ANGLERFISH
The male deep-sea anglerfish is much smaller than the female. But he has giant eyes to look for a suitable female
and enormous nostrils to sniff out her pheromones.
Having found her, he latches onto her with his teeth and then starts to disappear. Scales, bones, blood vessels
all merge into those of the female. After a few weeks, all that's left of the male are his testicles
hanging off the female's side, supplying her with his genes.

Source, QI interesting facts

--Now call me unadventurous, but this muggler is not down with that way of making babies.
The poor bastards melt into the female and after a few weeks all thats left of him are his balls...and she consumes them too!

Nearly as bad as the male squid thats 100 times smaller than the female.

He swims up to her, breaks off his 'love arm' and places it on the females body SHE DOESN'T EVEN NOTICE, He then swims away and dies.

When it's time for her to lay eggs she has a feel around finds  a 'Love arm' rips it open and sprinkles the contents over the eggs like a sachet of salt.  -SR

Caption Competition: Congratulations, **Viddax**. Well done, you funny cunt.

Archaic Poem Competition: **Deathproof** took it, and the runners up were DarcAngel and Panama Judas. Astyanax deserves a mention, and would have ranked if he'd kept it to 8 lines. *cough*Overachiever*cough*

What was your favourite childhood book?

I'd say it's the first book my dad bought me, Thumbelina.

Which book has made you laugh?

I don't recall reading a book which made me laugh. Soft giggles every now and then but nothing more.

Which book has made you cry?

The trilogy of Dave Pelzer (A Child Called It, Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave) brought tears to my eyes like no other.

Which book would you never have on your bookshelf?

I'd never buy a chick flick, low standard and full of cliché book, i.e. book title: Summer Days in Love's Island (title is made up!).

Which book are you reading at the moment?

I'm currently making my way through two books at the moment: The Distant Hours by Kate Morton and Whatever Happened to Modernism by Gabriel Josipovici

Which book would you give as a present to a friend?

I'd give them a book by Kate Morton; they're easy and most colourful to read. Embellished with lovely sentences and stunning imagery.

Which other writers do you admire?

I admire my former teacher/writer, Emilios Solomou, with all my heart. An excellent writer/teacher and most of all human being.

Which classic have you always meant to read and never got round to it?

So many classics, so little time. Im eager to read Bronte, Dante's Inferno etc. as well as some greek classics including, Odisseas Elitis and Constantinos Kavafis.

What are your top five books of all time, in order or otherwise?

Hmm... that's a toughie.

1. short stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald
2. Flush by Virginia Woolf
3. Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
4. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
5. (and surprise, surprise) Hamlet by William Shakespeare.

My top 5 varies from time to time.

What is the worst book you have ever read?

One word: Twilight.

Is there a particular book or author that inspired you to be a writer?

I've mentioned his name before but what the Hello Kitty. It's my former teacher/writer Emilios Solomou. His passion for literature has aspired me to write and love poetry.

What is your favourite time of day to write?

I don't particularly have one. I write when I feel like it.

And favourite place?

I can't decide. I'm torn between Virginia Waters Great Park – in autumn - and a place in my hometown called Skali.

Longhand or word processor?

Im rather traditional when it comes to writing. So I'd go with longhand, a hardcover notebook and a black fountain pen. A beret is optional!

Which fictional character would you most like to have met?

Every girls' dream is to meet Mr. Darcy! Mine is no exception!

Who, in your opinion, is the greatest writer of all time?

I'd answer in terms of who's been most influential for me. Although Jane Austen had been very influential during my teens, there are greater writers than her. One of them being Constantinos Kavafis.

Which book have you found yourself unable to finish reading?

I've never finished The Call of the Wind by Jack London. I don't really know why because it seemed like a nice little book.

What is your favourite word?

I once wrote a poem about 'dearest' being my favourite word. I'd go with that.
