I Still Remember...

Remember when we met down by the water in the middle of the night? How we talked for hours about space, earth and everything in between? You would always wear a wry smile, glancing at the shimmering stars. A thoughtful, but content look would grace your face as you parted plumb lips to speak.
"Heaven must be an awfully dull place if your best friends end up elsewhere. Say, if you were to die before me, ask if you could bring a friend!"
You would say just that with the wry smile of yours and the amused spark in your eyes. Just then silence would fall upon us. It is still a mystery to me how you managed to go into the depths of my deepest thoughts, my solitary universe, and plant a refreshing amount of sunshine with your calming charisma. Right now, I really want to meet by that riverbank again, and I'm so very close to run for it - also even when I know you won't be there. I start to think of the irony of it all. When did I become so dependent of you and everyone else? When did I start chasing ghosts, knowing the hunt was fruitless and silly? When did I start chasing broken dreams, knowing they weren't real? Knowing, that I would never be met by that wry smile and glittering eyes of yours again?
