Freak

That was great! Right to the point and powerful. I'm going to have to remove something from my reading list to add this. Now, as it never actually says it, I am assuming it is about you and how others view you, because it could be read from the perspective of the hater, not as sarcasm. If that were the case, my reaction would be of anger, rather than feeling the pain of the victim. Hmmm, I wonder if my opinion of how well written it is would change if that were the case. If I saw a painting of Jews dying in a Nazi death camp, how different would my feelings be if it was painted by a survivor or by the Commandant of the camp? I wonder if the painting might look exactly the same but through the eyes of the painter we might feel disgusted by their pride, power and glory or sympathy for their fear, pain and horror.

Thank you for your insightful comment. Yes this is indeed how I feel people view me or others like me at times. There is a price to be paid for not running with the herd and it's not always pleasant! Still I wouldn't change anything about me and I like being unconventional and rebellious even though I mostly hide it under a very respectable facade. I am slowly working on changing that though... :)  

Thank you for your insightful comment. I must say I agree with you -- to be oneself and to be proud of it too is in a way a form of ultimate self-realization.
I think there are two kinds of "freaks". Those who are not ok with themselves and those who not only are ok with themselves but are also proud of it. I have steadily been working to go from the former to the latter and have made some good progress along the way. :)  

I am not defined, inhibited, or limited by the blindnesses of others.  In someways I pity them; instead of this being a point of arrogance, I see it simply as a point of process...I see colors and this does not make me better or worse, but only having an added dimension.  Your description of this world is accurate and serene....their being freaked out by me, Plato's cave all over again! Scarlet and velvet.

It's good to know that there are others like myself who are not "defined, inhibited or limited by the blindness of others. I always enjoy conversing with such people as I consider them kindred spirits! Thank you very much for taking the time to comment. :)

Well, you must be a kindred spirit then and I am very honored that you feel the way you do about my poem.  The way I see it we "freaks" definitely have to stick together in a world that tends to have a hard time with "individualists beyond the standards of social mainstream" as you so eloquently put it.
