Poisonous Lovers

It's a sad ending, so I hope it does not last if that is to be your destiny. I like to think I hope love can conquer all, but the fact is, your poem is very reflective of the truth. Human love is so fragile and we want to hold onto it so badly we will accept the devastation two souls can inflict rather than let go and find the true love that is waiting in the wings to be found.

I think many great loves fail because men are still carrying the caveman jean. That may sound funny, but I really believe it. I have fought the fire raging inside me at times when I could have been unfaithful and I know so many who have lost that battle. It is not simply a choice, it is often the battle to be true to that choice. I think most men want to remain true to their love and the commitments they make, but there is some deep seeded monster that drives us to want multiple partners. I don't think any amount of liberation on a woman's part can overcome the beast, it is something that must come from inside the man. Unfortunately, men are all too aware of the beast and have found very creative ways to hide his existence. I sometimes wonder if I had ever married, if I would be just like so many men I know who gave in and once they had, found ways to live a Jekyll & Hyde existence.

Now that I have said all that, give love a chance, just give him a choice that you can stand behind. And keep writing poems like this when you feel it engulf you, though there is pain in your words, they are soothing to those who feel alone, but are surrounded by heartache.

This is an excellent expression of the battle between heart and mind.
