Echoes of a long dead God

Fire and brimstone,
Jimmy Hendrix and Al Capone

A man without a cause,
A tongue with naught to say

You say you are empathetic,
Compassionate even,
I'm sure you've gone through the same as I have,
But even your care is a selfish act.
To prove your humanity to your self...
I like to think I wouldn't pause to sacrifice myself for a stranger to live,
But did I take the time to know him,
Will his life bring him happiness?

I despise myself for my thoughts.
and yet I see myself as a good person,
but I am not impartial.

Does all this self-reflection make me self-centered?
If I deserve life less than some then let that some take my place!

But then I ask myself, if I am so pitiful, do I deserve to hurt the people I love and take my life...
