The Word Muscle

Sounds crazy
but sometimes words
jump out of my head
and on to the page
I have no idea why
or what I wish to say
they just happen
more often than not
with a frequency
which cannot be predicted
or guaranteed

Other times words jump
into my head
and resonate
Their stickiness
is generally a mystery
as I have no inclination
or am too lazy
to delve deeper
and discover why
probably because
I own a lingering idea
that total understanding
may temper their magic
or devalue the moment

Words alone
don't mean a lot
unless I feel them
somewhere in an area
of my chest
the size of a dime
almost half way down
and slightly left of center
I call it the word muscle
but when I feel them there
it's those times
they mean everything
