Crumply Sheets

I've been at the airport for an hour.
Early, wanting to see you. My angel.
My sweetheart. The reason my heart beats.
I anxiously scan the crowd for you. Then
I see you. Your beautiful face. Tired,
But smiling to see me.

I rush through the people, dive into your arms
And feel the familiar shape of your shoulders
As you hold me. I've missed you so much.
I hold you so tight. There are tears sparkling in my eyes
When you kiss me.

Home feels like home again. There's your coat
On its peg, your keys on the table.
We just go to bed. It's late. And I snuggle my way
Into your arms again, against your chest.
You hold me safe and warm. Our sheets
Are crumply again.
