RED

Too many times I've cried this goodbye,
all too often I've inked this rhyme,
and still consumed by the "whys?" and lies
as my heart breaks one last time

I have given and taken perhaps too much,
but I loved well and always for free
I've been teased with ever-trusting touch
and the illusion that my curse would finally let me be

There's a misery that comes with letting go
and it tears me without care or concern;
so I will wear secret scars that never show
and bear a pain I've never earned

No more of your touch, taste or smell
as I wipe the war rolling down my face,
and I'll watch without breath; no voice to yell
as someone special takes my place

Despite temptation I will give no more
and I swear I will do no harm,
I will strengthen my guard and seal this door
leaving you to the chastity of his charm

So take one last glance I swear it's free
but don't let him see you cry;
keep nothing but a memory of me
and bleed as we share this goodbye.
