Image for the poem Gecko on the Wall

Gecko on the Wall

a constant look, a peek
a glance at him
much beloved sleeping
smile on his lips
evoking a wrinkled grimace
on her once lovely face

glass wall surrounding
the sky peeking in blue
as tranquil as new Eden
lights dancing on mirrors
vines clinging on gigantic trees
clutching in morbid jealousy

she prowls on like a leopard
bound on terra firma
no good, not happy
she wants to scratch his face
mark him as hers
no more like a tiger caged

his easy laughter annoys
drives her up the wall
what has he to laugh for
only look at me and worship
this queen, black spider
I will eat you up afterwards

like a gecko on the wall
constantly watching
constantly warding off
competitions for his affection

she growls at imagined slight
snaps his head back to her face
to dispel any distractions
it never succeeded
for she is a gecko on the wall
and he is much beloved of the other.
